Fort Smith Councillor Dianna Korol has issued a statement on behalf of council, the mayor, and Protective Services regarding the status of the wildfires around the community.
According to Korol, the town and area received a healthy pour of rain in the evening, and contractors have arrived in the community who have structure protection and sprinkler equipment.
Currently, there are 17 fire fighting/EMS crew on site as of August 14 at 10:30pm, and reports show the flames should not impact the town through the night.
Additionally, phone, and internet is still down in the area; however, intermittent messaging is happening through starlink.
