Fires lead to property losses in Paradise Gardens through Enterprise, Town of Hay River issues statement regarding evacuations

The Town of Hay River has issued an update for all evacuees following the evacuation notice issued last evening. 

According to the Town, fires have led to property and structural loss in the area of Paradise Gardens south through Enterprise. Currently, the highway from Hay River to Enterprise remains closed. 

“There are no known fires within Hay River north of Patterson’s Road,” the Town says, “Remaining residents are instructed to evacuate through the Hay River airport. Flights are scheduled to depart through the night with a destination of Fort McMurray,” they add. 

A reported 215 people have been flown this evening from Hay River to Grande Prairie, with additional healthcare patients transported via other flight services. 

Phone lines and service remain inactive as of 11:30pm; however, emergency services have established limited comms through different providers.
