‘Set up their sprinklers and test them as a precaution’: NWT Fire issues warning for cabin owners along Ingraham Trail

The wildfire close to the Ingraham Trail remains out of control and was last mapped at 37,495 hectares burned.

According to NWT Fire, the blaze currently stands 12km north of Prelude Lake, 11km northeast of Prosperous Lake, 4km south of Island Lake, and 18km north of the Ingraham Trail.

NWT Fire says residents of the Ingraham Trail are not currently at risk; however, numerous cabins near Duncan Lake are at risk.

Dry, windy conditions have led to severe fire behaviour and crews say direct attack on the fire has been limited for safety reasons, but aircrews took flight despite smoke yesterday.

Safety precautions are encouraged for residents along the Ingraham Trail as the blaze continues to creep closer to cabins.

“We are recommending all cabin and homeowners in the Prelude Lake North, Prosperous Lake North, and River Lake area to set up their sprinklers and test them as a precaution,” NWT Fire says.

Additional structure protection has taken place with crews focused on the shores of Duncan Lake alongside controlled ignitions to limit fire growth.
