In the early hours of the morning on July 31st, Fort Smith RCMP received a complaint that a man was setting off fireworks in the community in contrast of the fire ban in place for the area.
“This incident, understandably, caused significant concern for nearby residents given the current wildfire situations,” the RCMP says.
Members of the Fort Smith RCMP attended the residence immediately and attempted to contact the man. Police say the man refused to speak with officers and ran into his residence when police approached.
The incident remains under investigation and the RCMP says charges may be laid if appropriate.
“Activities like this are dangerous and create completely avoidable risks to people and property,” the RCMP adds.
