YK Pride continues Cupcakes for Commemoration tradition

Yellowknife Pride continued their pride week events with ‘Cupcakes for Commemoration,’ a free rainbow cupcake giveaway for everyone to enjoy.

According to YK Pride, handing out cake in front of the post office in Yellowknife was a tradition long before any formal pride organizations carried it on.

YK Pride says celebrations in Yellowknife started in the 1990s with pieces of cake being passed out in front of the old Post Office.

Now, YK Pride continues the tradition as a way for northern LGBT+ individuals to connect with the community.

Pride week in Yellowknife continues until July 30th, 2023 complete with karaoke, trivia, and more.
