Fires between Yellowknife and Behchokǫ̀ extinguished as fire season continues in the NWT

NWT Fire has released a series of updates related to the status of various wildfires throughout the territory. 

Two spot fires in the North Slave have been brought under control due to ground and air support through the past week.

NWT Fire says concerns are growing as a fire north of Fort Smith burned past control lines on July 10th. The fire has now grown larger than 560 Hectares with ‘extreme’ fire activity. 

Fire crews are setting up sprinklers on cabins in the area, and controlled ignition operations are being considered to limit growth towards Fort Smith.

A cabin-caused fire sparked up on Highway 3 between Behchokǫ̀ and Yellowknife over the past few days, but was quickly extinguished after teams wetted the area and monitored to ensure the blaze was contained.
