The NT RCMP have posted their first monthly statistic report for recent crimes committed in the NWT.
These reports are intended to provide an overview of what officers have been responding to, as well as show off recent trends in criminal activities. As opposed to showing individual communities, these reports will be representing the NWT as a whole.
Starting with Calls for Service, there was a total of 4,096 calls to the RCMP in the month of June. This was down 5.4 per cent from the month of May, and 8.4 per cent higher than June of 2022.
A total of 346 personal offences were reported to the police last month. This includes 26 cases of family violence, 25 sexual offences, 50 cases of assault with a weapon, and 242 common assaults.
June also saw 343 different property crimes. There was 15 cases of fraud, 17 Break and Enter cases, 143 cases of mischief, and 148 thefts. The RCMP clarify that Mischief indicates any incident where a property sustains damage.
In regards to missing persons and wellness checks, last month saw 151 wellbeing checks, 132 cases of mental health situations, and 23 reports of missing persons.
The report also reminds residents that Drowning Prevention Week is coming up from July 17th to July 21st. They advise boaters to make sure that everyone aboard their craft has a life jacket, or other kind of personal flotation device.
