RCMP remind public about drone safety following incident near Yellowknife Airport

Following a complaint regarding drone operations in the Yellowknife Airport’s airspace on June 21st, 2023, Yellowknife RCMP are reminding residents about drone regulations in the city.

RCMP have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently looking to speak with the drone’s pilot.

Yellowknife RCMP say the use of remotely piloted drones is regulated by Transport Canada and under the Canadian Aviation Regulations. A full list of rules and regulations can be found here.

According to the RCMP, flying drones near airports causes major safety concerns and can endanger pilots and passengers of commercial aircraft. The RCMP says failure to follow the rules and regulations concerning drone operation can result in criminal charges.
