Petition Launched in Yellowknife over Surface Water Line

Users of the City of Yellowknife’s surface water line are launching a petition for more transparency from the city governemnt.

The Back Bay Community Association filed the 203 signature petition with the City today. The petition responds to various reports that surface water lines could be eliminated by the summer of 2024. They are asking that the city involve them in a public and transparent evidence-based process for informing water delivery decisions.

The petition calls on the City to:

• Seek neighbourhood and YKDFN agreement on analysis of the costs and benefits of options for delivering water to Old Town, Ndılǫ, Latham Island and School Draw residences and businesses.

• Assess the costs-benefits of three options – retiring surface water lines, repairing them, or replacing them.

• Continue surface water lines service until a consensus is reached by residents and the City of Yellowknife on water delivery services.
