Due to a planned operation in relation to a shooting incident on June 17th, members of the RCMP ‘G’ Division Critical Incident Program are present at the Fort Gary Apartments on Gitzel Street in Yellowknife.
Around 10:45 pm on June 17th, RCMP officers responded to complaints of a shooting on Bigelow Crescent. A female adult was taken to Stanton Hospital for treatment of serious injuries related to gunshot wounds. Three suspects fled the scene and police have not specified whether the operation at the Fort Gary Apartment building led to any arrests.
Around 3:30 am the morning of June 19th, police issued a release advising the public to avoid the area and refrain from taking photos of police operations, saying officers will be at the location for several hours.
As of 4:00 am the same morning, the RCMP says there will continue to be a police presence at the apartments as part of the investigation, but there is no longer a risk to the public.
