Major Crimes investigation in Fort Providence leads to murder charge

Following the discovery of a deceased adult male on June 12th in a Fort Providence home, RCMP Major Crimes took two women into custody.

An investigation by Fort Providence RCMP, Major Crimes, and Forensic Identification, alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner, has led to a 28-year-old Fort Providence woman being charged with murder, in contrast to Section 235 of the Criminal Code.

The suspect is currently in custody and will appear in Territorial Court on June 15th, 2023. The second person of interest, initially detained by police upon discovery of the body, has been released without charges.

Testing shows that another school in the city of Yellowknife has elevated levels of lead and testing also confirmed elevated levels of copper present in water from some of its drinking taps. Last week, testing showed that three Yellowknife area school buildings and a school in Behchokǫ̀ showed elevated levels of both copper and lead in water from some drinking water fixtures.
