Where’s that smoke in Yellowknife coming from?

Yellowknifers woke up to a smoky morning on Friday – and conditions are forecast to get worse as the day goes on.

According to the experimental forecast maps at FireSmoke.ca, the smoke is being pushed north toward Yellowknife from fires to the south-east of Great Slave Lake.

The forecast suggests the smoke will be at its worst by Friday mid-afternoon.

Changing wind conditions on Saturday could bring some relief and drive much of the smoke away to the east.

According to the territorial government’s live fire map, the nearest wildfire to Yellowknife at present is some 75 km to the north. Fire danger in the area remains extreme.
