Yellowknife Holding Special Showcase for Municipal Officers

The City of Yellowknife will soon be holding a special showcase event for the various Municipal Enforcement services.

Municipal Enforcement Officers will be at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza from 12:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. on June 10th. The public is invited to come down and meet the officers, who will provide them with information about their jobs, as well as various pieces of safety information.

In addition, there will be patrol vehicle tours, giveaways, free bike helmets for children, and a free BBQ with lots of food and beverages, including vegetarian and halal options.

The Municipal Enforcement Division is responsible for enforcement and administration of most City of Yellowknife by-laws. This includes laws such as the Motor Vehicles Act, Dog Act, and All Terrain Vehicles Act. Municipal Enforcement Officers work to make sure they are engaged with the public, and provide education and enforcement when necessary.

In 2019, the City Council passed the By-law Enforcement Policy, which helped to reaffirm the Municipal Enforcement Division’s commitment to public safety by encouraging them to proactively deal matters related to public safety and respond on a complaint basis to anything else.
