Town of Hay River removes evacuation status

The Town of Hay River has removed the Evacuation Alert status as of 4:00 on June 6th.

The risk from the fire has been reduced and support services including the Hay River Regional Health Centre have been restored to normal.

Citizens are encouraged to practice fire-smart measures including clearing out underbrush and mowing dry grass. The municipal government has begun fire-smart measures and crews continue to monitor hotspots.

Smokey conditions in the area are expected to continue through the summer due to fires across the territory and the rest of western Canada.

The risk of fire may continue to be present throughout the summer however, conditions look promising for the time being.
