GNWT enhances financial assistance program for students

The GNWT announced today the enhancement of the Student Financial Assistance (SFA) Program to support students and remove barriers to post-secondary education.

SFA provides financial assistance to eligible NWT students to assist with post-secondary education related expenses.

“The changes will remove barriers that may prevent Indigenous students from achieving their educational goals and will promote access to post-secondary education for all NWT residents.” Minister of Education R.J. Simpson said in a release.

Program enhancements include increased benefits for tuition, grants for students with disabilities, and removing suspension penalties for withdrawing from or failing a course or program.

SFA applications for students wishing to attend the fall semester are due by June 30th of this year and students looking to apply are encouraged to visit www.gov.nt.ca/sfa for more information.
