WSCC introduces new OHS support service

The Workers Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) is introducing the ‘Safety Outreach Representatives’ as part of efforts to create safer workplaces.

Three WSCC employees (two in the NWT and one in Nunavut) have been reallocated to support employers in developing OHS programs, best practice concerns, and educational resources.

“The introduction of this new service will benefit both employers and workers.” WSCC CEO Harmeet Jagpal said in a release. “The Safety Outreach Representatives are an additional step toward fulfilling our vision of eliminating workplace diseases and injuries,” he added.

According to the WSCC, employers are not under obligation to accept Safety Outreach Representatives, but employers looking to receive support can call the WSCC where the Commission will put them in contact with a representative.

Aklavik Access Road closes April 30, one day earlier than anticipated
