Sambaa K’e fire inches closer to community as crews begin protection efforts

The fire near Sambaa K’e is now under 30km away from the community and continues pushing smoke throughout the territory.

According to NWT Fire, crews have protected all critical infrastructure in the community with sprinklers and have started preparing protection for houses.

High value elements such as critical infrastructure in the community are also under protection from crews as the blaze continues to carve out a closer path.

The fire was last measured at 67,920 Hectares in the NWT and over 100,000 Hectares in total including Northern BC.

An incident management team is on site with three crews and more on the way. Heavy equipment, airtankers, and helicopters are working to establish a fuel break to prevent the fire from spreading further.
