Festival organizers announce cancellation of Hay Days 2023

Following the cancellation of Hay Days 2022, festival organizers say they have been looking forward to Hay Days 2023.

After several weeks of deliberation, festival organizers have officially announced the decision has been made to cancel Hay Days Festival 2023 and events scheduled from July 4th to 9th this summer. 

Due to the ongoing wildfire situation in K’atl’odeeche First Nation, plans and logistics were delayed, and KFN residents are still left without a return home date. 

The wildfire forecast for the summer continues to strain facilities and businesses involved with the festivities, and sponsors and organizers continue to worry about the uncertainties of the situation moving forward.

The Rotary Club of Hay River Sunrise says they look forward to organizing a Hay Days Festival again in 2024.

The federal government says they are committing $4-billion for Indigenous housing in urban, rural and northern communities. The announcement was made in Behchokǫ̀ on Friday. The multi billion dollar plan, dubbed the Urban, Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy, intends to balance Indigenous-led funding agreements and open, project-based funding for Indigenous housing projects.
