The GNWT announced the newest inductees of the Northwest Territories Education Hall of Fame on June 1st, 2023.
Inductees were nominated by colleagues, students, and community members for contributions made in their respective fields.
The first inductee was the Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning, which received the nomination for Post-Secondary Education and Minister’s Choice.
“Dechinta has redefined how many northerners are accessing post-secondary education in the North.” Minister of Education R.J. Simpson said at the event.
Other inductees included; Charlene Liske for community outreach, Alan Karasiuk for JK-12 education, and Colleen Eckert for leadership in education.
Lima Baroryee was inducted posthumously and her two daughters Lydia and Remy accepted the honour in her place.
