As May closes out, fires are not slowing down outside Sambaa K’e. The flames outside the community now include 49,548 hectares inside the NWT.
Crews are working on infrastructure protection both in the community and on values between the community and the fire.
According to NWT Fire, rain gave a bit of relief to the Dehcho, slowing the growth of fires in the area but crews are continuing to assess the situation.
The GNWT confirmed as of May 30th, there are 9 active fires in the territory covering 160,000 hectares of land.
