Tricia Morland from Tiger Blossom Fashion is a business owner from Australia who established herself in the Yellowknife fashion scene through fur garments with a high-class twist. Realizing the potential of her success, her family decided to stay in the north, and now she’s been crafting and designing fur garments for over five years.
We love it here. We don’t want to go, My husband quit his job and we have been here ever since. We just love Yellowknife. We love Northern Life. We love living in Canada. This is home. I love it. But, you know, I really wanna do something a little bit different for people here and give them some other options with fashion. So everything I do is handmade. I make it all everything I sell has been made in Yellowknife. It’s very important to support local craft, and local people.
Tiger Blossom offers several services to their clients, and recently Tricia has been focused on her wedding and bridal garments to give a fun twist on traditional wedding fashion.
I do some custom work if there’s something special people want, and the bridal range for weddings. That’s another big part of my business. I have a beautiful long white cape that I rent out for weddings, and then I have lovely little wraps and capes for brides. I have pretty little garters and just, just things to enhance your wedding day.
Tricia says that using sustainable resources such as furs is a key part of her success and supporting local trappers and their way of life is crucial in the fur fashion industry.
I started five years ago and what I wanted to do was to bring something that was a little more upmarket, fashion to Yellowknife, but I also wanted to support the people in our communities who rely on trapping to enhance their income. I think it’s economically and culturally very important to the communities up here. So I do add some furs to my garments, but I do make sure they’re all naturally harvested. – Tricia Morland
