Smoke in Yellowknife poses ‘very serious risk’ to community members according to Environment Canada

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the City of Yellowknife due to smoke from wildfires in the territory.

Yellowknife’s air quality index is currently listed at 10+ which poses a very serious risk to community members.

Environment Canada is recommending a stop to all outdoor activities and contacting your health care provider if you or someone in your care experiences shortness of breath, wheezing, coughs or chest pains.

It is recommended for all Yellowknifers to keep your doors and windows closed, and using an air purifier with a HEPA filter in rooms where you spend a lot of time.

Taking a break from the smoke by relocating or finding locations with clean air in the community is also recommended.
