GNWT Seeking Feedback on Student Financial Assistance Program

The GNWT is asking for the public’s feedback on a Student Financial Assistance Program, which they are hoping will increase benefits and reduce barriers.

The proposed changes reflect feedback received through a client satisfaction survey and an internal review focused on aligning the Student Financial Assistance Program with calls for increased access to post-secondary for Indigenous Peoples made within the Truth and Reconciliation of Canada Calls to Action, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Final Report and Calls for Justice, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The proposed changes are increased benefit levels, more access for Northern Indigenous students, removing the barriers to access post-secondary education, and removing the semester limit and expanding remissible loans for all NWT residents.

The public is encouraged to look over the plan and send their feedback to the GNWT. Public responses will be accepted until May 31st, and can be sent to [email protected]
