Fire crews hold strong lines despite high winds in Hay River/KFN

After a battle against strong winds from the north, fire crews in Hay River/KFN managed to hold their lines and continued to establish several others. 

NWT Fire credits the progress made today to cooler temperatures and stronger control lines near the south of the fire to stop the spread.

Fire crews successfully worked towards establishing solid control lines along the southeast flank and south side of the fire to limit growth to Highway 5 and Hay River. The work done today makes progress towards NWT Fire’s key objective of preventing southern spread and hooking to the east due to winds.

NWT Fire says until lines are fully established and strengthened, there remains a risk of spread into the communities.
