While on patrol in the community of Fort Providence on May 16, 2023, RCMP stopped a car for a motor vehicle violation. Upon observation and interaction with the vehicles occupants, officers were led to believe there were illicit drugs in the vehicle.

RCMP promptly arrested three individuals and began a search of the vehicle.

During the search, police seized approximately 30 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of cannabis products, oxycodone, and approximately $7,200 in cash. The vehicle involved has also been seized for further investigation.

“The prevalence of illicit drugs has had a devastating impact on the community of Fort Providence and our police officers are committed to conducting these proactive investigations to keep our communities safe.” NCO in charge of Fort Providence RCMP, Corporal Kevin Devoe said in a release.

The three arrested adults have been released for court at a later date. Charges related to drug trafficking, possession, and charges under the Cannabis Act are anticipated.
