City of Yellowknife introducing fire ban on May 19th

The City of Yellowknife is introducing a fire ban for the municipality starting on Friday May 19, 2023 at noon, when open air burning fire pits will be banned until further notice.

According to the City, current conditions in the area caused the Yellowknife Fire Division to implement a ban to reduce the risk of wildland fires in city limits.

“The fire ban is a proactive measure to reduce the risk of fires starting from camp fires, bonfires or other open sourced flames within city limits,” Yellowknife Fire Chief Nelson Johnson explains.

Yellowknife Fire has made it clear that the fire ban will not affect CSA approved propane fueled pits and barbeques.
