Northwestel partners with satellite communications companies to provide stronger connectivity in the north

Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) has signed a 10-year contract with satellite communications company OneWeb in partnership with Northwestel to build a new ‘Satellite Network Portal’ in Yellowknife to enhance satellite connectivity across Northern Canada.

Construction is underway in Yellowknife’s new Engle Business District and Det’on Cho Environmental is providing local guidance on environmental assessments and permitting. SSC has committed to providing maintenance and on-site support for a period of 10 years after the projects completion.

“We are thrilled that through this partnership with SSC and Northwestel, we will be able to provide even the farthest reaches of the country with reliable, high-speed broadband connectivity.” Vice President of One Web Howard Stanley says.

According to the SSC, the partners on the project are working closely with local governments and community leaders to ensure connectivity contributes to the City of Yellowknife and the broader territory specifically.
