YK RCMP Arrest Erratic Driver

Yellowknife RCMP recently arrested an individual after a traffic safety offence lead to a short chase.

On May 12th, around 2pm, Yellowknife officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, which was being driven by a lone male. The man refused to stop for the officers and fled the scene.

The vehice was found a short time later driving along Highway 3 towards Behchoko. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued to flee. The driver began swerving erratically, and nearly colliding with two police cruisers, and made a second escape.

Officers later found the vehicle at a rural residence along Highway 3, near mile marker 321. The vehiucle had been abandoned, and closer inspection revealed that the driver had tried to hide the vehicle’s location. Police closed off that section of the Highway while RCMP Emergency Response Teams and Police Dog Services were engaged to search for the driver. The suspect was found and arrested a short time later without incident.

The suspect is a 43-year-old man, and is now facing the following charges;

– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Flight from Police
– Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
– Two counts of Assault on a police officer

The man is now in custody, and will appear in Yellowknife court on May 30th.
