United Way NWT begins donation distribution for wildfire evacuees

United Way NWT has mobilized to collect and distribute donations for anyone impacted by wildfires in the Southern Northwest Territories, after evacuations started on Monday.

Several Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nations have been evacuated and relocated to parts of the NWT including Yellowknife.

“The people of the Northwest Territories have stepped up during every emergency to people impacted by flooding over the past few years, and we’re hearing the call again from our neighbours in Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation.” Chair of United Way NWT Tracy St. Denis said.

United Way says funds raised will go towards providing evacuees with gift cards, micro-grants to aid the City of Yellowknife, and associated costs with rapid response programming for evacuees.
