In pictures: Family day at the ballpark in Yellowknife

All-star fastball players gave Yellowknife’s kids a big-league experience as the second annual Family Day at the Ballpark took place on Thursday.

Around 200 spectators watched Team Waugh and Team Case in action, featuring players from the city’s five adult fastball teams.

Younger players had the chance to run the bases, get their face painted, parade ahead of the game, and get a free ballpark hot dog.

Meanwhile, the pressure was on for all-stars nominated as “candy players” in each inning. If the designated candy player reached first base, all kids at the event received free candy. No base hit? No candy.

“The evening was a huge success,” organizer Jennifer Lukas told Moose FM. “We were really fortunate that the weather held out.

“The whole point of the kids’ league is to help to instil a love for the game in our young players. I think watching a group of local guys, who all really love to play, helps to foster that in these kids.”
