GNWT Looking to Rename the Legacy Stanton Building

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites all residents to help with renaming the Legacy Stanton building. The Stanton name transferred to the new facility when it opened in 2019. Legacy Stanton is a temporary name for the building that previously housed Stanton Territorial Hospital. As the building’s reopening approaches, it’s time to give it an official name.

The facility will serve as an integral component of the Stanton Health and Social Services Campus and will provide Primary Care and Rehab services on the first floor. The second and third floors will accommodate 74 Long Term Care and 16 Extended Care Beds.

Between December 14, 2022 and February 2, 2023, residents will have the opportunity to submit their suggestions of a new name for the Legacy Stanton building through the Have Your Say Page, which provides instructions for submission.

Consideration will be given to names that reflect the historical, cultural, and geographic significance of the Northwest Territories and to names that honour deceased persons who have made significant contributions to public life. When submitting a suggested name, please provide a brief description about its significance and relevance to the above criteria.
