YK Salvation Army Looking For More Toys for Christmas

The Salvation Army is asking help to make sure every Yellowknifer has a Merry Christmas, in a year with a big jump in requests for help.

With Christmas only weeks away, they are still short of toys for every age group (0-13) to meet the demand on their Christmas assistance program.

“We want to be sure that every family that has come to us for help this Christmas, has gifts for their kids under the tree,” says Salvation Army officer, Lt. Jason Brinson. “This is about making Christmas happen for those kids, so if you can, please bring a new toy to the Northwestel Toy Drive, or drop it off here at The Salvation Army.”

The increase in requests for help includes those who may never have had to ask for Christmas assistance before; in many instances they were donors in previous years, helping others.

“If you can give a toy, at the Kettle, or a few hours of your time for a Kettle shift, we would really appreciate your help this year,” says Lt. Brinson. “Things are tight for so many, so every donation or Kettle shift is a blessing for not just today, but all year.”

Kettle donations are at about 44% of their final goal, and all those donations stay in Yellowknife to keep The Salvation Army’s programs running all year.
