Made in Yellowknife Day Encourages Local Shopping

Yellowknifers are being encouraged to shop local for an upcoming holiday event.

Coming up on Saturday, December 10th, is “Made in Yellowknife Day!” For this event, Yellowknifers are encouraged to do their holiday shopping at locally owned businesses and services. shoppers who spend $20 or more on Yellowknife-made products can enter a draw to a gift certificate to a participating Yellowknife store. Products can be purchased in-store or online, and may include goods such as art, jewelry, clothes, toys, souvenirs, homemade food, etc. The draws will take place on December 14 and winners will be notified and announced on the City’s social media channels.

Shoppers may win gift certificates from stores carrying locally made art and craft products. Participants receive one entry into the draw for every $20 spent and there is no limit to the number of entries submitted.

Yellowknife Mayor Rebecca Alty said in a statement that “We have had a lot of positive feedback on our shop local initiatives. Made in Yellowknife Day is the final push to encourage Yellowknifers to purchase locally over the holiday season. I’ve definitely noticed a growth in the number of locally made products over the past years and the City wants to support this trend.”
