Hay River Residential Area Struck by Explosion

The city of Hay River was recently struck by an explosion at a residential building.

At around 10:20 am on November 26th, an explosion was reported at a property in the Beaver Crescent are in Hay River. The blast was reported to have been seen all throughout the community boundaries.

The Hay River Fire Department and other emergency crews were quickly engaged to provide support. Upon their arrival, two area residents were quickly treated for non-critical injuries, and fire crews suppressed a fire from the explosion. an evacuation was issued for the surrounding area while emergency crews were on site.

Propane and power services were shut down for the area while utility providers investigated. Fortunately, they found no major risks. The evacuation order was lifted at 12:40 on the same day. Full utility services were quickly restored, though residents are still able to contact their providers if they have any questions.

Several homes in the area received damage, including broken windows. Local contractors have already begun emergency repairs, and residents are advised to speak with their insurance companies.

A special shelter was set up at the Hay River Community Centre with help from Health and Social Services. The Office of the Fire Marshall is investigating the incident, and any further information will be released from their office.
