GNWT Launches Electric Vehicle Funding Program

As part of its effort to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions and support the green economy, The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a program to support electric vehicle charger infrastructure projects in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

The Northwest Territories Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program is an application-based contribution program designed to provide funding for projects for electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects in public places, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces, on-street locations, as well as for light-duty vehicle fleets across the NWT.

The program provides up to 50% of the total eligible costs of a new electric charging infrastructure project. Funding provided to successful applicants cannot exceed $5,000 per connector for Level 2 charging infrastructure and $75,000 per charger for Level 3 charging infrastructure.

The program will accept applications from entities legally incorporated or registered in Canada – including not-for-profit and for-profit organizations.

Natural Resources Canada announced an investment of $414,000 to the project, funded through its Zero Emissions Vehicle Infrastructure Program. In total, the GNWT is contributing $56,000.
