Fort McPherson RCMP Seize Large Amount of Liquor

On Friday October 21, 2022 at 10:55 PM, RCMP in Fort McPherson acting on information received from the public, conducted a traffic stop on the Dempster Highway within the 25 km radius of the Fort McPherson Liquor Restriction regulations.

As a result of the traffic stop, a search of a vehicle was conducted. Police found and seized 3 x 24 cans of beer and coolers, 3 x 1.18 Lt bottles of Captain Morgan Rum, and 102 x 750 ml bottles of Vodka. An adult male passenger who was in the vehicle is currently facing charges under the NWT Liquor Act Regulations.

“Stemming the flow of illegal drugs and alcohol in our northern communities is a policing priority and the effort of Fort McPherson Detachment in preventing this amount of alcohol from getting into the community is an example of the RCMP’s commitment to that priority” states S/Sgt Bruce McGREGOR North District Advisory NCO and Acting District Officer.

Drinking Water Advisory issued for the hamlet of Fort Liard

In an announcement issued today, GNWT’s Chief Environmental Health Officer Dr. Chirag Rohit reported that laboratory-based testing from the Hamlet of Fort Liard, reviewed by the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer, shows that the total THM levels in treated drinking water are above Health Canada’s guidelines.

The Dettah Ice Road has opened

The Dettah Ice Road was opened this morning to vehicles weighing a maximum of 5,000 kg.
