Tlicho Government Releases Economic Development and Training Strategy

The Tłı̨chǫ Government, Department of Client Services recently released the 2022-2027 Economic Development and Training Strategy.

Developed by the Tłı̨chǫ Region Economic Development Working Group (TREDWG) the forward-looking Strategy provides a roadmap to enable and foster economic opportunities for Tłı̨chǫ businesses and Tłı̨chǫ citizens, including economic opportunities in traditional economies.

This is the second published five-year Strategy replacing the previous Strategy released in 2017.

The four main objectives of the Strategy are to:

• Improve self-sufficiency within the Tłı̨chǫ communities

• Leverage external partnerships to create opportunities for Tłı̨chǫ businesses and
employment for Tłı̨chǫ citizens

• Deliver relevant training locally

• Enable external training and education

The success of the Tłı̨chǫ Government’s 2022-2027 Economic Development and Training Strategy depends on the effective collaboration of all working partners and the ability to identify opportunities, address challenges, and move forward on the actions outlined. Effective collaboration on the Strategy programs will create a brighter future for all Tłı̨chǫ citizens, Tłı̨chǫ communities, and the Northwest Territories.

The final Strategy report integrated a variety of data collection methodologies including online and door-to-door surveys, one-on-one meetings with those involved in economic development, staff input, meetings with representatives from the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), consultants with the Tłı̨chǫ Government, Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation, and training partners.
