Yellowknife RCMP arrest Vehicle Theft Suspects

Two arrests have been made in Yellowknife in relation to the several thefts from vehicles that have been taking place around the city.

On September 3rd, at approximately 2:15 AM, the Yellowknife RCMP were on patrol when they located a man rummaging through a vehicle on Finlayson Drive. The police officers stopped and detained the man who was determined not to be the owner of the vehicle.

A 22 year-old man was arrested and faces multiple charges including trespass by night, possession of property obtained by crime and failing to comply with the conditions of a release order. The man was remanded into custody.

On September 4th, at 8:38 PM, the Yellowknife RCMP received a report a resident witnessed a person break into their vehicle on Williams Avenue. Police attended and investigated and were able to take a youth into custody without incident.

A 16 year-old youth faces multiple charges, namely, theft under $5,000, and failing to comply with a court order. This youth has been remanded into custody.

Vehicle entries and thefts continue throughout the City of Yellowknife. Residents are urged to ensure that vehicles are locked whenever they are unoccupied. A 9PM routine of locking vehicles and securing property is also encouraged as a way to prevent thefts.
