Yellowknife Farmers Market opens Tuesday

Yellowknife, NWT – Yellowknife’s Farmers Market will be expanding in its second year.

That’s according to its Communications Director Dave Zethof.

He says people can also look forward to a greater variety this time around.

“We do have some new vendors so people will see some more arts and crafts but what we try to focus on most is the gardening aspect so we have two new tables where local gardeners can come by weekly and drop off produce they have from their gardens. Between that and a few new gardening vendors we have, we’re hoping to increase our produce sales.”

Zethof says they are anticipating upwards of 45 vendors this year selling everything from local fish to baked goods.

He says the point of the market is to facilitate education on local food production.

The Farmers Market will be open every Tuesday starting at 5:15 pm at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza.

It will run from tomorrow until mid-September.
