Yellowknife RCMP Looking Into Multiple Thefts from Taxis

Yellowknife RCMP are reporting an increase in thefts from taxis across the city.

Between February 27th, 2022 and March 1st, 2022, the Yellowknife RCMP received five reports of thefts from taxis. These thefts occurred in different parts of the city. A number of items were stolen from the taxis and substantial damage was caused to some of the vehicles to gain entry.

Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity to the police. The City of Yellowknife has seen a number of incidents of vehicle related thefts and damage in recent weeks.

City residents are being encouraged to take the following steps to try and reduce the risk of theft from their vehicles. Make sure all doors are closed and locked, park in a well lit area, make sure there are no items of value in the vehicle, make sure that any items that are left in the vehicle are not easily visible, and turn on the lights of your home to illuminate the vehicle.

In most cases, the culprits have targeted unlocked vehicles. Making sure your property is secure and parked in a well-lit area whenever possible is the best defense against these types of incidents.
