Two Hay River Men Injured After Collision

Two Hay River motorists have been injured following a collision over the weekend.

Around noon on Saturday, February 19th, Hay River RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on the Mackenzie Highway. A white Ford Ranger was struck from behind by a red Ford F150, which was traveling at excessive speeds.

Both vehicles suffered significant damage. The driver of the white truck required the Jaws of Life in order to be extracted from his vehicle. He was then taken to the Hay River hospital with serious injuries, though he has been listed as being in stable condition. The driver of the red truck was also taken to the hospital, but he suffered only minor injuries, so he was released.

The driver of the red truck may be facing charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Impaired.

The Hay River RCMP would like to thank Rowe’s Construction and Bassett Petroleum for assisting with traffic control. The GNWT Department of Highways were on scene to assist, and, Northland Utilities was dispatched to replace a power pole damaged as a result of the incident.
