Yellowknife RCMP Warning Residents of Thefts from Vehicles

Yellowknife RCMP have responded to fifteen complaints related to thefts from vehicles since January 1st, 2022.

The thefts have largely occurred in downtown residential area, between 47th Avenue and School Draw. A number of these incidents have also included the thefts of license plates.

The Yellowknife RCMP are asking anyone who has had a similar incident occur, to call and report it. Anyone with video surveillance footage of any of the incidents is asked to provide it to investigators. Information related the location of events and items stolen can be used to analyze trends and help develop crime prevention strategies. The motivation for the theft of license plates is of particular interest to investigators, and RCMP would encourage these incidents to be reported to police.

A majority of these incidents have occurred when the vehicles are left unlocked overnight. Forgetting to lock a vehicle is a common and understandable occurrence that shouldn’t be a deterrence to reporting these incidents to police.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Yellowknife RCMP at 669-1111
