While conducting two separate investigations, the Yellowknife RCMP have arrested multiple people for drug-related offences.
YK Officers first received a call to service on January 16th, where they were sent to a private residence. Witnesses had observed the occupants selling crack cocaine, and upon arrival, the officers were directed to a bedroom. They found two males in posession of cocaine, and a further investigation of the house revealed around 100 grams of crack cocaine, as well as $5,000 in cash.
The suspects in this case are twenty two year old Alhaji Omar Nyan and twenty five year old Hussen Abdulkadir Elmi, both not residents of the Northwest Territories. they have both been charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Both men have already made appearances before the courts.
In the second case, on January 19th, officers received a tip about a drug trafficking operation in a room at the Capital Suites along Franklin Ave. As police searched the room, around 130 grams of cocaine, crack cocaine, and other drug-running items were found. One of the suspects was also found in posession of a 9mm handgun.
In total, three men and two women were arrested. Thirty four year old Hassan Alawie, a non resident of the Northwest Territories, 24 year old Kristijan Bradaric and 29 year old Michael Lorensen, residents of the Northwest Territories, have each been charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Bradaric is facing additional weapons charges, as he was the one who was found with the handgun.
Twenty two year old Kate Brule and twenty five year old Leona Simpson have been charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The two have been released from custody.
