The town of Behchokǫ̀ just received an upgrade to their internet services!
On Monday, January 17th, Northwestel successfully launched full fibre internet service to homes and businesses in the small town. Northwestel customers are now able to receive unlimited data, tv services, and their internet has just been made 16 times faster.
Along with faster speeds, Behchokǫ̀ now has internet rates that are on par with more major Northern centres. Curtis Shaw, the President of Northwestel, said that the technology being used in Behchokǫ̀ is of the same quality that is used in Edmonton and Toronto.
Northwestel is also making sure to follow public health guidelines, and take all necessary precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic to make sure customers and technicians alike stay safe.
Behchokǫ̀’s Fibre link is part of Northwestel’s Every Community project, a 3-year plan to bring high-speed unlimited Internet to 10,000 homes in the Yukon and NWT. The Every Community project is the company’s largest-ever construction initiative, funded by Northwestel’s own significant investments and $62 million in funding from the CRTC Broadband Fund.
