City of Yellowknife introduces shop local campaign

Yellowknife, NWT – The city of Yellowknife and the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce are launching a spring shop local campaign throughout June.

Businesses and consumers are encouraged to interact and make posts on social media highlighting local shopping experiences.

Communications and Economic Development Officer Richard McIntosh with the city explains why the campaign is so important.

“Anytime someone spends money within Yellowknife, it has a multiplier effect. Local purchases help pay wages for employees, taxes are paid and then employees spend their money and so it multiplies that effect.”

McIntosh says a winner will be selected every week in June for answering questions related to shopping using the hashtag “shopyk” on social media.

He says winners will receive a $100 gift certificate that can be spent on any product or service offered by the city of Yellowknife.
