YK residents aged 50+ can now get booster doses, 40+ for other NWT communities

On direction of the Chief Public Health Officer, eligibility for booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has been expanded to include Yellowknife residents aged 50 and older.

For all other NWT communities, it will be for residents who are aged 40 and older as of December 31st.

Booster doses increase immunity and are being offered on a voluntary basis, after a minimum of six months following a resident’s second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

For Yellowknife, online booking is encouraged, however for anyone unable to book online, limited walk-ins are accepted between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The NWT Health and Social Services Authority is reminding residents that COVID-19 boosters can be received at the same time as the annual flu vaccine.

Feds, GNWT say affordable, accessible housing in works for Northerners

Inuvik’s Blueberry patch will be the site of much needed affordable and accessible housing units. Plans for the new social housing development include 40 units. Monique M. LaPlante, with Canada Mortgage and Housing, reported that the common areas will be barrier free, and 35 per cent of units will be accessible. GNWT says Sambaa K’e Access Road on closure notice

GNWT’s Department of Infrastructure says Sambaa K'e Access Road has been placed on closure notice. On Tuesday afternoon, the department issued a 24 Hour Notice of Closure Caution at Sambaa K'e Access Road from 803 m southwest of km 4 to 817 m southwest of km 112. Officials said that the road "may close sooner with little to no notice."

Feds commit $20 million for new water treatment plant in Hay River

Northwest Territories MP and Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Rebecca Alty has just announced an investment of about $20,100,000 from the federal government for construction of a new water treatment plant in Hay River. The new plant would provide clean drinking water to Hay River as well as Enterprise, Kátł’odeeche First Nation and Ka’a’gee Tu First Nation. The announcement was made Tuesday at Hay River Council Chambers.
