Mildred Hall School appoints new assistant principal

Ryan Nichols will be the next assistant principal of Yellowknife’s Mildred Hall School.

The YK1 school district announced that he’ll assume the position at the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

Originally from Berwick, Nova Scotia, Nichols began his northern teaching career in Behchoko before transitioning to Yellowknife.

Nichols has been with YK1 for eight years now. For the last five years he’s been with Mildred Hall where he’s the math and science specialist for grade 7 and 8 students.

Nichols also serves as the school’s physical education coordinator and is involved in YK1’s Athletic Excellence in Hockey Academy.

NWT Species at Risk says the threats faced by barren-ground caribou are “unprecedented.” Their first ever progress report on the barren-ground caribou was released Thursday. The five year review includes eight distinct caribou herds from those in stark decline, like the Bathurst and those that appear to be increasing, like the Beverly herd. Some barren ground caribou herds listed in the report are more at risk than others, each having separate management plans.
