Man seriously injured, sent to hospital after Behchoko fire

Behchoko RCMP say a man was seriously injured in a Bay Island house fire over the weekend.

Police and the Behchoko fire department responded to the blaze early Sunday morning.

The house was occupied by two people at the time of the fire. While one escaped unharmed, the other was airlifted to Stanton Territorial Hospital for treatment.

Police say the structure of the house was saved, but that there was significant damage to the building’s second floor.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. RCMP continue to investigate alongside the NWT Fire Marshal’s office.
