19 new cases of COVID-19 in NWT, 23 recovered

There have been 19 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the territory since September 21st.

There are now 233 active cases among residents in the territory. 143 of those are in Yellowknife, while 54 are in Behchokǫ̀ and 22 are in Whatì.

Due to the number of cases in these regions remaining high, COVID-19 restrictions in Behchokǫ̀ and Whatì were extended yesterday to October 7th and 9th respectively.

The COVID-19 gatherings order in Yellowknife was extended to October 4th.

The total number of cases related to the Sahtu outbreak is at 730.

At a press conference yesterday, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Kami Kandola said the NWT has the highest rate of Covid-19 infections, per capita, of any province or territory in Canada.

A total of 492 cases have been resolved from the outbreak.

The total number of hospitalizations and ICU admissions remain the same as yesterday, at 23 and 11 collectively.
