Yellowknife hosts 30th annual bike rodeo

Yellowknife, NWT – The 30th annual Yellowknife bike rodeo went down this past Sunday.

Corporal Daryle Foster is with the city of Yellowknife’s Municipal Enforcement Division.

“The bike rodeo took place at the Multiplex on Sunday from noon until 5pm. It was open to school kids from kindergarten to Grade6. It’s based on a safety aspect where kids go through an obstacle course and at the end of it we gave away 18 bicycles and a trip for two to Edmonton.”

Foster says there was a helmet fitting station on site and a chance for kids who didn’t have helmets to get one.

He says it was meant to be a fun experience, but that it was designed to teach children about the safety of cycling and head protection.

Helmets have been in the news a lot lately as the city inches closer to adopting a helmet by-law for youth.
